Ski Trip:

Important knowledge:

·                     The group rate for 15 people gets one free lift ticket, free lessons for anyone who wants them

·                     Final cost is usually around $45 for ski rental and lift ticket

·                     Usually have to make reservations 3 weeks in advance

·                     Attendees should bring $10 for food and 50 cents for a shoe locker rental. Food at the lodge is pretty expensive and if possible a sack lunch can save a bunch.

·                     To make the group breaks, we take all scouts who want to go first then open up the remaining slots for family members then one friend of each scout. All non-scouts are first come first serve basis until slots are filled.

Dan Beard council usually reserves the entire Perfect North slopes for a scout weekend in mid-February. Troop 7 usually goes in January during one of the off school days when the slopes are not as crowded. We also get a better discount if we take 25 people. All information for the slopes can be obtained on-line at http://www.perfectnorth.com.

Planning should occur at either the last meeting of December or first meeting of the New Year. Scouts should be given 3 days to decide if they wish to attend before the remaining slots are opened for non-scouts. Perfect North and the Troop require release forms to be signed by a parent or the person cannot go on the event. Forms can be obtained at the Perfect North web site. An approximate return time should be established with the parents so everyone can go home in a timely manner.

Travel to the slopes usually takes about 1 hour. On the day of the event, all participants meet at the scout building 30 minutes before departure time. Before any parents leave they must have signed the waiver form. Any guests with the troop must also pay their fees before departure. Guests should be charged the normal price rounded up to the next $5. This will cover any additional cost incurred by the troop. As always, BSA rules dictate that all passengers must wear seatbelts.

Upon arrival at the slopes 2 adults should go to the far right of the building to sign in and get left tickets and rental passes. The remaining people should go to a central point in the lodge to wait for the tickets and free lesson passes. Before people go downstairs to get their items a quitting time should be arranged as to when everyone should be in the lodge at the end of the day (4:30 is best). It usually takes 30 45 minutes to round everyone up. A central meeting point with an adult present at all times should be established so in case of injury. We always try to get the scouts home by 6pm before dinner time.

Cost of the event:

Costs for the event are separated into buckets: Lift tickets and ski rental. Usually several people with bring their own skis which makes the accounting a bit funny. Lift tickets are discounted for ages 12 and under and we also get free tickets for the number in the group. So........

Each person is charged the same amount for ski rental. The total ski rental cost is subtracted from the overall cost of the trip. The remaining amount is divided by the total number of people attending. This way the discount for 12 and under as well as the free lift tickets is passed to every attendee. If the cost is quite a bit lower for the non-scouts a refund should be considered.
